Panamericana, Casual Chic meets Sexy Bar and Grill on Sentosa

Panamericana

I’ll admit that I select my dining destinations by the way it presents itself. Lured by images of sweeping views over the Singapore Strait and sophisticated but casual interiors, I booked Panamericana for my birthday lunch. From its location at Sentosa Golf Club, Panamericana overlooks the sea. Cool breezes flow over their wide balconies where you can opt to dine al fresco.

Inside, hues of the ocean are echoed. Blues, teals, and greens contrast with marble, wood, and highlights of copper and gold.  It is very much a place for beautiful people to hang out, enjoy a drink and nibble on food inspired by the Americas. The entire venue is bordered by full-length glass doors and you can see the ocean or rolling golf fairways from most of the tables.

As we walked through their wood framed double doors into a cool indoor dining area, we could see the open fire grill. The tall black chimney is a centerpiece. A statement of their welcoming hospitality. In South America, Asado is a traditional way of cooking meat on a grill and this is particularly what I was looking forward to… the meat! However, because I am married to The Vegetarian, I did hope that they would have a good selection of something vegetarian for him. Additionally, dining with two under fours and a tween also had me hoping for a kids menu that would please.

Bottles of sauce, on the left, spicy, and on the right, sweet, are left on the table for all to enjoy.

Family feasting

While we had booked lunch for 12.15, we could also enjoy food from their brunch menu. Believe me when I say that I would very much like to return and try their Huevos Rancheros. But this time, seeing as we were a group of 6 adults plus the younger ones, we decided to share a few main dishes. The littles were happily content with the kid’s menu (on which they could scribble to their heart’s content) and tween enjoyed toast heaped generously with smashed avocado.

Coffees and drinks here were also good and I believe the bar is a highlight of the Panamericana experience though we didn’t really take advantage of that while we were there. It is stunning though, with brilliant green tiles and tall stools of wood and rattan.

The Vegetarian found their tofu burger to be very satisfying and the rest of us carnivores ordered almost all of their meat options to try and share. We thought we should round out the meats with a few of their salads and a couple starters.

Starters

I will always, ALWAYS order chicken wings… and if I don’t, I will always wish that I had. We ordered their battered and fried wings which we enjoyed but the highlight of their starters were the meaty empanadas. Stuffed with lamb and covered in a flaky pastry, we were sorry we only had two to share amongst us. However, we had ordered quite a few options for our mains so this was probably for the best.

Traditional empanadas stuffed with lamb and served with a green chutney are a must have to start.

Mains

When my family gets together, there is always a tendency to over order and seeing as the menu contained quite a few things we wanted to try, we ordered away!

Whole grilled chicken, generous in size came out all juicy with a sweet marinade and served with grilled lemons. The hit of sour was needed on the tender chicken pieces.

Lamb! Grilled in the traditional way and then pulled from the bone, served with grilled broccolini with its charred bitterness – a perfect match.

Pork belly with pan seared scallops… Panamericana’s version of surf and turf topped with fresh cucumber, coriander and onion.

While we found the grilled dishes to be satisfying and yummy, the creative salad options were my favourite and added a touch of bright freshness to a very meaty meal.

Dessert

There was only one thing on the dessert menu. Crispily fried churros served with caramel sauce begged to be ordered as a finish. After a moment of thought, we decided to share a plate of these golden fried tubes.

Sweet churros and caramels sauce went well with great coffee and teas to end our meal.
