Think English pub meets traditional shophouse eatery. A great spot for coffee or gin and tonic at the start (or end) of your Joo Chiat discovery.

Al fresco dining at this great brunch spot.

 Udipi Ganesh Vilas Restaurant

10 Ceylon Road

A wonderful find, this simple Indian vegetarian restaurant serves a variety of delicious Indian dishes like dosa, idly and thali sets. On the weekend, it’s packed with devotees of the temple (2) dressed in their finery. During the week, get a fabulous set lunch for a few dollars (minus the crowd).

Rumah Kim Choo

109/111 East Coast Road

Preservers of Peranakan culture (even before it was cool), this place is part cafe/deli/museum/ cultural center/shop! It is brimming with antiques, treats and insight into this unique culture.

Get your fix of Nonya treats here.

Head up the stairs for their museum.


Da Dong Prawn Noodles at Mellvin Coffee Shop

354 Joo Chiat Road

These yummy bowls of prawn noodle soup with optional pork slices are rather famous. The coffee shop, Mellvin, is a great people watching spot. Always busy, you can also order an ice kopi or Milo dinosaur to go with your bowl of noodles.

ABC Restaurant (Al Falah Barakah Restaurant)

365 Joo Chiat Road

Stellar biryani and traditional Malay style mee goreng can be found here.

Try this place… anytime! They are open 24 hours

Matt’s choc shop

122 Tembeling Road

Stop here for great fudge cake and handmade truffles opposite an outdoor park.

Stark but if the chocolate is good, I’ll try it.

I suppose where there is chocolate, it is always Christmas!


Sha-Zah Confectionery

105 Joo Chiat Road

The start of the Malay stretch of Joo Chiat Road. Delicious curry puffs are $1 for 3. The perfect munchable!

Several types of curry puffs are available here.

This shop adds to the colour that is Joo Chiat Road.

What a bargain! There is a slight tang to the pastry which is delicious.


Hjh Maimunah Restaurant

20 Joo Chiat Road

A bustling restaurant with authentic nasi padang (rice with a huge selection of over 40 dishes), great laksa and traditional tofu towers (tahu telur).

Over 40 dishes are available here.

The famous HJH Miamunah on Joo Chiat Road.

Escape the bustle for good Nasi Padang here.

Public car park are marked on the map as are bus stops and taxi stands. There is off street parking available on almost every street.
